Appropriate $ amount for Chinese wedding?

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, so trying the Food thread, sorry if this is the wrong place.

It's been quite a while since I last went to a Chinese wedding dinner.
Clarification: I wasn't actually invited to the dinner banquet, but was given a pastry card and know about the wedding (it's someone's daughter - I don't know the daughter at all).

Someone told me the going rate was a red packet of $100 at least.
But I presume this would be the gift amount for a guest actually attending the dinner.

What would be an appropriate monetary gift amount? Help please!

$100 per person if you're attending. It should at least cover the dinner cost per head. More if you're close.

Since you're not attending, I have no clue. Didn't even know it was customary.

As a white guy I have only been to a few Chinese weddings but the $100 per head seems to be appropriate if you are not too close.
