I did the C 21 today!! It was great, I started after the morning rush and finished just at the beginning of rush hour. It was just one route, no interlining where I need to learn a million different routes. Sticking me out in Maple Ridge for my very first time out was mean. Especially when you don't know it that well. Oh well, at least I got the passengers to where they wanted to go safely, a few wrong turns here and there. It was an adventure that's for sure!!!

Nice! I used to like the C21/23 when there was enough layover time to hang at the beach for a bit. The food truck and the hot dog cart were always a bonus. What a great area down there! I almost miss doing the 5/6 because of that.

Yeah Maple Ridge is just so... out there. If you haven't done it yet, just wait for the C48 - and enjoy your timing point with the cows! lol

Lol I did do the C48!! That was the very first route of the shift which was my very time on my own. I took a wrong turn and missed the timing point totally I think it was 100 and 268th. I had the C 48,45,47,44. It was crazy, too many to learn in one shot. The C 21 was sweet just the one route all day and had some time and the end of each terminus. Not to mention the view of the ocean!!

FYI: The big system wide consolidated sign up for Sept starts June 27: Times are now posted on the employees only website. It's going to be quite interesting with many big changes coming for Sept. The sign up list shows 2885 Conventional Ops signing, plus any new classes since the list was printed. Approx 100 Ops currently in Richmond will need to move to other depots, simply less work will be out of Richmond come Sept. North Van Ops will need to seek out a new home as N Van closes for good. Interesting times... Best of luck with your desired choices!

Be patient, take a bathroom break if you need it even if you are late, and keep track of the number of passengers on the bus so you don't go over the limit. (max. 24) Good luck!

Sorry just saw this... but from when I did it, take your time, don't worry about the schedule (lots of buses cover the area), take time for yourself if you need it. It can get full fast, so make sure you are counting heads. Use the bus full sign so people get it. Most regulars using that bus or know it fills up and the 6 also covers a lot of that ground. More to be concerned about is traffic... I didn't find it so much with conventional, but when I drove shuttle there it seemed everyone would do whatever they could to get in front of you. Watch the lights and pedestrians too - they are like random moving targets to avoid! lol Much different than hangin' with the cows in Maple Ridge!

You'll be fine. And if you're driving tonight... enjoy the scenery. ALL the characters come out on Friday and Saturday nights downtown. It's always a party on Davie! :p

What a busy route. I was prepared for the people but the traffic was really bad today. There is road work happening on Davie and Bute caused a lot of delays. The operator I was to relieve this morning was already 15 min behind so I way behind never got caught up. In fact I was an hour behind. T COMM called me and reset the paddle or something. But it didn't take long to get behind again. I didn't worry about it tho, I even went to the washroom. I'm getting better at being more relaxed and not worrying about the time. I took my time and was patient with the traffic. Didn't do anything stupid, safety first. Also loads of pedestrians and cyclists. We need a head that can turn 360, like in the Exorcist!!! Lol

Lots of roadwork means lots of late buses, don't sweat it. Remember your OT slips!

    You survived! Win #1! lol

Now you've experienced both extremes of Shuttle! (There is a third/naked extreme - UBC/Wreck Beach area... but I'll leave that one alone for now though :S)

And your mindset is perfect regarding the time. If TCOMM has a problem with your time, and believe me they know more than you think about where you are, they'll let you know - as they did. Good job.

99% of the time getting behind is NOT the operators fault. Conditions beyond our control dictate how we drive and when we get there. For instance: Last night, part of my work was a 116 from Edmonds to Metrotown. It is after the majority of the crowd has gone home, around 1800, so generally light loads and traffic. I was +1 when I turned on to Central heading in to the station. Due to traffic and one lane each way because of construction, by the time I unloaded and left again (after a QUICK pit stop) I was -12. With 3 passengers. On a quiet run. o_O So it happens.

Don't be like the operator behind me who got impatient and passed by everyone only to have to squeeze/merge RIGHT, back into the single lane. That's how incidents happen. Notice I didn't say accident, because if something had happened there, it would have been the result of trying to go too fast.

So from a sleepy little 129/112/116 last night, off I go to a 99 today! WooHoo!

And your head can swivel all you want, as long as there's no barfing of pea soup, we're good. We have enough passengers getting on the bus who already do that!

Yup I encountered the exact same thing doing the 5/6 yesterday also.

I dont care about scheduling, as long as I can use the washroom and grab a coffee then I'm good to go.

One more week until the sheet ends!
