I'm new to forum real all comments and replies, you guys are a great help. I just got my class 5 not even 2 weeks ago, and want to apply for conventional bus operator. When I went to the site, I saw there is no posting. How long do you think it will be till they post it up again?
I also have a prohibition on my record and got suspended due to unpaid tickets. Will that affect me in the hiring process?

Hi guys. More great news. I did the video test last Monday (I don't know why they call it a video test since it was a written test) and I got the call from Raj yesterday saying that I passed. My interview will be on July 11th. Just 5 more steps to get to the training class

 

Hey! Congrats! My suggestion: If you have the time, start brushing up on the air brakes system and study the pre trip inspection. Maybe go out and ride a #3, 8 or 20, or any trolley route really, on a Friday night or Saturday night. Some Operators are more chatty than others. Training has tons of homework and quizzes.

 

Thanks Superchecker. I already have a class 2 license with air brakes so I dont think I'll need to do that test but I wonder If they will want me to participate in the class 2 road test.

As to the air brake stuff... you will participate in EVERY part of the 6-week training class. Including the tests and pre-trips as well as road tests. Having said that, you will not have to do the ICBC exam for your air brake test but CMBC will give you their own in-house test to ensure you are familiar with THEIR system. I had to do this (for a different reason - long story) but it is not difficult if you know the theory and practical aspects of the air brake system.

You will do a road test too if I recall, but again it is more of a gauge for them to see if you are operating a TRANSIT vehicle according to CMBC standards. Don't quote me on this part though as it's been a while and it may have changed somewhat... you will be checked on everything they teach you - again, to make sure you are doing things THEIR way!

And Superchecker is correct - usually before the interview, they request that you go out and ride a few different routes, observe, ask questions, etc. It's a good way to see if there are any lingering questions (or doubts? haha) for when it's interview time. Most operators will be happy to chat a bit if it's not too busy if you let them know what you are there for!

Well, after three days of the new sheet, how is everyone enjoying their new chosen torture...err I mean career?

I went from mid-afternoon/evening straights last sheet to doing late OWLs this time and all I can say is WHAT A TREAT. If you are a nightowl, enjoy driving with no traffic to fight and want to beat the summer heat, I can't recommend it more highly.

Finish times are somewhere between 3 and 5am and yes, you definitely see some characters out there!

Consolidated signup has started and soon we'll know where everyone has chosen to go for the September sheet and the new depot/depot moves.

To all the folks looking to get in... keep working at it! More training is scheduled and I'm sure we'll see new postings for operators soon!

 

For me: Summer and Fall sheets: Just enjoying the variety of Holiday Blocking. Each week someone else in on Vacation and I pick who I want to cover for each week. I really enjoy the variety. days off can change as I get whatever days off that Op who is on vacation picked.

 

I should have clarified... blocking for me too but late and comfortable! My reasons are the same as yours - variety. It's the only way to go!

 

I have switched to another depot and enjoying my new work in the new sheet. (Community Shuttle) A good thing about being in shuttle is that you can change depots at each sheet if you want to (in a way, each of our sign-ups are "consolidated"), and when you sign up for stat work, you can choose any depot as well. I like having the options and the variety.

 

Im doing Spareboard in Burnaby. Ended up being Standbye today and dont suspect Im going to be used. Easy!

 

I'm not a fan of Stand By, I much rather just have a shift and go out and work it. Just sitting in the depot seems to take 3 times as long as actually driving. I have done Stand By when there is little choice.
